Become a Sightsale ambassador
Our pages are researched from official sites and what travellers say. What they can't hold is how it really was on the day: the queue at 9, the view, the ticket that worked. That is what our ambassadors write.
What an ambassador does
You travel, as you already do. When you visit one of the sights or cities on Sightsale, you write a short report afterwards: what you did, what it was like, what you would do differently, and whether what our page says still holds. You take your own photos. If the report is good, we publish it on the sight’s or city’s page, and in an Ambassadors section where readers can find every report. Your name, a few lines about you and a link to your blog or site go with it.
That is the whole idea. Readers get a first-hand account next to our researched page, we get told what is right and what has changed, and you get readers and a link.
How it works
- Apply with the form below: who you are, how you travel, where you are going next, and a link to your blog, site or profile if you have one.
- Travel and write. Reports are about trips you make from now on, not trips you did years ago. A report is around 400 to 1,200 words in your own language, with five to twenty of your own photos. Tell us when you were there and what you paid.
- We read it, and we check it. We compare what you found with what our page says. If you found a price, an hour or a rule that has changed, we correct the page, and your report says so.
- We publish, on the page of the sight or city and under Ambassadors. We translate it into the site’s other languages, marked as translated from your original.
- You tell the world. Call yourself a Sightsale ambassador on your blog, your site and your profiles, and link to your report here.
Who you travel as
Every ambassador has a profile: a family with small children, a couple, a solo traveller, retired and interested in art, out for the nightlife, up at six to beat the crowds. A reader who travels the way you do can follow you from report to report and trust that what worked for you will work for them. With each report you also say what kind of trip it was: with the family, as a couple, alone, with friends, on business.
What is in it for you
Honestly, not money. Sightsale ambassadors is just starting, and we have nothing to pay with yet. What you get now:
- Your reports published on a site built to be found, with your name, your profile and a link to your blog, site or profiles on each one.
- The right to call yourself a Sightsale ambassador, with a link back to your page here.
- A good reason to visit the sights properly, and to write it down while it is fresh.
- The company of other people who travel well and like to help those who come after them.
If Sightsale ambassadors grows, our earliest and best ambassadors come first when there is something to share: entries, merchandise, whatever we can round up. That is a hope, not a promise.
The rules, in plain words
- We decide what is published. We read every report, we may ask you to change things, and we choose which photos to use, always in dialogue with you. Nothing is published automatically.
- You can take it down. Ask, and we remove your report and your profile.
- Trips from now on. We publish accounts of visits made after you join, so the facts in them are current.
- Your own words and photos. The text and the photos must be yours. People who can be recognised in a photo must be fine with it being published. By sending a report, you let us publish it on Sightsale, edit it for length and clarity, translate it and use its photos on the report and the page it belongs to. The rights stay yours.
- Honest. Say what you paid, what you booked and how. If a tour company, hotel or tourism board gave you anything for free, say so in the report; we mark it.
- No payment, no employment. This is a voluntary collaboration. Each side can end it at any time.
